WHEN IS BAKE OFF 2026 ON TV?
The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4, with episodes typically broadcast on a Tuesday evening around 8pm. There are usually 10 episodes per series.
The main series begins in late summer, with new episodes airing each week through autumn. The Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer spin-off airs separately in the spring, with individual episodes released weekly on a Sunday at 7pm. Each episode runs for around an hour, following contestants through three challenges before one baker is named Star Baker and another leaves the competition.
WHO ARE THE CELEBRITY BAKE OFF 2026 CONTESTANTS?
This year's celebrity line-up brings together a diverse mix of established comedians, actors, broadcasters, and musicians drawn from across the entertainment world. The tent features familiar faces from British comedy, long-running drama series, and music, alongside a number of well-known presenters and broadcasters. The full line-up reflects the show's tradition of assembling a broad cross-section of public figures in aid of Stand Up to Cancer, with the charity fundraising element remaining central to the series.
WHO ARE THE JUDGES AND PRESENTERS?
Paul Hollywood returns as the show's long-standing judge, known for his direct feedback and exacting standards. His role remains central to the competition, with contestants aiming to impress him week after week and secure the all-important handshake.
This year sees a significant change in the judging panel, with Nigella Lawson joining as a new judge, replacing Prue Leith. Nigella brings her extensive food background and distinctive style to introduce a fresh dynamic alongside Paul, marking a new era for the show with a shift in tone and judging perspective.
On the presenting side, Noel Fielding continues as co-host, known for his dry humour and unpredictable interactions with contestants. Alison Hammond returns with her trademark warmth, helping to keep contestants relaxed during high-pressure moments while adding plenty of humour to the tent.
WHAT'S NEW IN BAKE OFF 2026?
The 2026 series introduces a few subtle changes while keeping the core format intact. A new audience-led element allows viewers to influence certain challenges, putting fans directly in control of what the bakers conjure up in the tent. Paul Hollywood shared the announcement on the show's official Instagram page, revealing that an Audience Choice Week will see viewers decide which bakes they'd like to see.
This innovation represents the show's continued evolution as it seeks to deepen engagement with its devoted fanbase.
HOW DOES BAKE OFF WORK?
Each episode follows the same three-stage format that has defined the show over the years.
The Signature Challenge allows contestants to showcase a bake they have practised in advance, demonstrating their strengths and personal style. The Technical Challenge tests their ability to follow limited instructions, often pushing them outside their comfort zone and revealing how well they adapt under pressure. Finally, the Showstopper Challenge requires a large-scale, creative bake designed to impress the judges. At the end of each episode, one contestant is named Star Baker, while another leaves the tent.
WHY IS BAKE OFF STILL SO POPULAR?
Despite running for many years, The Great British Bake Off continues to attract a large audience. The show blends light-hearted competition with relatable contestants, making it an easy watch that appeals to viewers of all ages. The format works because it balances genuine stakes with warmth and humanity, allowing audiences to develop connections with the bakers beyond just the competition itself.
With new judges, evolving challenges, and a strong celebrity line-up, the 2026 series is set to continue pleasing its viewers. The addition of Nigella to the judging panel and the new audience choice element keep the format fresh while maintaining the elements that have made Bake Off a cultural phenomenon. You can catch the new series on Channel 4 from late summer onwards.
